Dr Lynne U. Sneddon conducts research and teaches at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden. Her research has led the agenda to improve aquatic animal welfare. Lynne was the first to characterise nociceptors, receptors for pain, in fish in 2002 and since then her laboratory had investigated the impact of laboratory procedures on the welfare of fishes and other aquatic animals. Lynne's recent work has developed software monitoring tools to accurately assess the welfare of laboratory zebrafish. She has further developed new knowledge on pain relief in fishes to refine experimental procedures. Lynne has held several editorial roles, positions on the council of learned societies, and has been a research grant panel member on a number of funding bodies. She leads a FELASA working group producing a report on pain managament in zebrafish. Her current funding explores the assessment and alleviation of pain in crustaceans, cuttlefish and fishes.
