Brief Biography
Elizabeth Kipp Campbell, Ph.D., CIP
Elizabeth Kipp Campbell has been working in the field of human research ethics for over 25 years. Elizabeth began her career as a researcher, obtaining her Master’s and Doctoral degrees from the Pennsylvania State University where her research focus was on stress, illness and immune functioning in children. While an NIH post-doctoral fellow at the University of Minnesota, she became interested in the ethics of human research and was recruited to serve on the Institutional Review Board (IRB) there. She left academia to pursue a career full-time in this area, serving as the Director of the IRB at Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota and also volunteering as an Assistant Chair/Chair of a Biomedical panel on the University of Minnesota’s IRB for 14 years. In 2010 she came to Purdue to become their first Director of the Human Research Protection Program. She left Purdue in 2015 to serve as the Director of the Office of Human Research Ethics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In 2019 she was recruited by MaineHealth to serve as their Director of Research Ethics and Compliance. She currently also serves on the Council for the Certification of IRB Professionals.
