Ms. Jyoti Angal is the Director of Clinical Research at the Avera Research Institute in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She is also an instructor with the Department of Pediatrics at University of South Dakota. Ms. Angal received her undergraduate degree in Homeopathic Medicine from India and a Master’s Degree in Public Health from the San Jose State University, CA. Ms. Angal was recently appointed to the Secretary's Advisory Committee on Human Research Protections. As Director of Clinical Research, Ms. Angal provides oversight for research activities conducted at clinical sites in South Dakota. From 2012 - 2017, Ms. Angal served as the Director of the Regulatory Knowledge Core for the Collaborative Research Center for American Indian Health funded by the National Institutes of Health. The mission of the Regulatory Knowledge Core was to work with tribes in South Dakota, North Dakota and Minnesota to build tribal research infrastructure, developing policies around tribally led research oversight, including tribal IRBs and issues related to data ownership and sharing. Ms. Angal also serves as a Co-I for the Safe Passage Study for the Infant Safe Sleep Study, a mixed-methods research project funded by NICHD in 2014. The primary aim of this project is to develop a culturally appropriate infant safe sleep curriculum to reduce the risk of unsafe infant sleep practices in American Indian Communities in the Northern Plains.
