Debra Schaller-Demers, MSOM, is the Vice President, Research Outreach and Compliance at Memorial Sloan Kettering (MSK). As MSK’s Vice President, Research Outreach and Compliance, Ms. Schaller-Demers has more than 20 years’ leadership experience in research integrity and compliance. She has administrative oversight for MSK’s IACUC, IBC, Export Control, and Human Embryonic Stem Cell research programs as well as grants management/congruency. She supports the Research Integrity Officer with research misconduct investigations and serves as the Institutional Official for Animal Welfare and Export Controls and chairs the Research Laboratory Safety Committee (RLSC). She also oversees the multi-institutional (MSK, WCM, RU, HSS) Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) program. Ms. Schaller-Demers also works as an adjunct lecturer for the City University of New York’s School of Professional Studies online graduate program teaching Introduction to Research Compliance, Ethics, and Integrity and the Practicum Capstone. She received the Adjunct Lecturer of Excellence Award in January 2021. Ms. Schaller-Demers currently serves as the Society for Research Administrators International (SRAI) Immediate Past-president. She is a frequent facilitator and content creator in Research Ethics/Compliance and Leadership/Professional Development for all levels of SRAI programming. Additionally, she has presented for many other professional organizations (US and globally): ARMA (UK), WCRI (Rio; Amsterdam, Hong Kong), INORMS (Melbourne; Edinburgh; Hiroshima), PRIM&R, ARIO, APPE/RISE, JHU RAD, CAREB (CA), EARMA (Bologna), and CARA (CA). She received the 2021 INORMS Award for Excellence in Research Management Leadership. She has authored research integrity articles for SRAI’s Journal of Research Administration, the SRA International Symposium (Best Paper Winner 2005, 2007, 2010) and Research Global Magazine. She authored a book chapter: “Building a Responsible Conduct of Research Program to Sustain an Institutional Culture of Research Integrity and Compliance,” for a research compliance textbook (2015) and the Research Compliance Framework module for SRAI’s LevelUP program. She has a background in graphic and fine art, conflict resolution, public education advocacy, and holds a MS Degree in Organization and Management.
