Kristen Crabtree, BA, CIP, is the Associate Director of the Human Research Protection Program in the Office of Research Support and Compliance at the University of Texas at Austin. Over her 13-year career in research, she worked as a research associate in the field of media and advertising research then made her way to academic research in 2011. She has worked as a research coordinator and lab manager supporting research in the fields of neurocognitive psychology and children’s nutrition research at Baylor College of Medicine and her alma mater, the University of Texas at Austin. In 2015 she accepted a position as an IRB compliance program coordinator at UT Austin and from there she was promoted to IRB Manager, then Assistant Director of the IRB program, and finally to her current position as Associate Director of the HRPP in 2021. In her current role, she is responsible for the oversight and leadership of the human research protection program including the IRBs reviewing human research conducted at UT Austin and Dell Medical School. She also serves as an alternate voting member on the Social Behavioral IRB and Health Sciences IRB at UT Austin. Kristen enjoys working collaboratively with the HRPP/IRB staff at UT Austin and the research community to promote a robust understanding of ethical and regulatory requirements, facilitate ethical and scientifically sound research, and ensure protections for research participants.
