Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health
Joan B. Cobb Pettit has worked at Johns Hopkins University in various IRB capacities since 2002. She graduated from Princeton University and has law and ethics degrees. Currently, she is the Executive Director of the Bloomberg School of Public Health (BSPH) IRB and has served in that capacity since 2008. The BSPH conducts half of its human subjects research studies outside of the United States Recently she was appointed as a member to the Northern B Health and Disability Ethics Committee under the New Zealand Ministry of Health. During her career she has twice served as a Fulbright Specialist to universities overseas, and has been a subject matter expert on NIH Fogarty grants. She has published materials on Consent Forms and Procedures, Field Guides for training data collectors, self-assessment for IRBs, and QI versus Research.
