Kathryn is a Certified Professional in IACUC Administration (CPIA) and has a BS in Animal Science from the University of California Davis. She previously worked as a Breeding Coordinator at a Contract Research Organization in San Diego, California where she managed a breeding colony of Dutch Belted rabbits before joining the IACUC Office at the University of Texas Southwestern in 2015. She is currently the IACUC Manager at UT Southwestern.
In addition to her institutional responsibilities, Kathryn serves as the TBAALAS Metro Coordinator for the Dallas-Fort Worth area. She has also spoken at the 2016, 2017, and 2019 National AALAS meetings on various IACUC topics such as: establishing IACUC guidelines for evaluating traumatic brain injury devices, using metrics to determine the success of IACUC programmatic changes, and streamlining the new PI on-boarding process. In 2016 she was recognized with a Presenter Award at the annual TBAALAS meeting for her work with early pregnancy determination via ultrasonography in rabbits. Kathryn's article "Celebrating Occupational Health and Safety" published in 2020 was the inaugural piece for Lab Animal Professional (LAS Pro) magazine’s reoccurring column "Inside the IACUC". She has also contributed to two additional articles for this column on how IACUCs have adjusted their operations during the COVID-19 pandemic. She most recently co-presented the PRIM&R webinar "IACUC Operations: Pandemic & Beyond" where she focused on how to adapt employee engagement and recognition strategies to a virtual work environment.
